Bookworm Wednesday

Besides food one of my obsessions is books.  I have an eclectic taste is my novels of choice, so I thought I would share my thoughts on some of my favourites, as well as those books I am currently reading.

First up

John dies at the End by David Wong

David Wong is a Cracked.com writer, and this novel actually started as an online free narrative back in 2001.  It went on to be published in 2007 and fell into my little hand earlier this year, as I randomly picked it up at a Chapters (by the way,  I love Chapters).

The book is rather beyond description.  It is a comic horror saga, that involves, an "evil" narcotic that gives its users the ability to see the things that a sane person would do pretty much anything to avoid.  David our "hero" and his fairly odd friend John partake in this drug and hilarious yet devastating and horrific hi jinx ensue.

This book has by far the best introduction ever, a riddle that reveals the awful secret of the universe. and made me laugh out loud in public.  I was hooked after only two pages.  Though I can't say this book is for everyone it is slightly perverse and somewhat obscure, but I can say I am oh so glad I found it out of the thousands of books in Chapters that day. (by the way, I love Chapters)

It has come to my attention that a movie has been made, and though I fear the abstract aspects of the book will have trouble translating to the silver screen, I hold out hope.  Paul Giamati stars as the reporter, and since he is a "real" actor, I feel my hope is not unfounded,  Enjoy the trailer below, but find a copy for a unique read...   if you dare
