Christmas pageantry

Tonight I went to the Christmas pageant at one of the local grade schools.  I went because some of my favourite little people were performing.  E in the band with a rousing flute rendition of "up on the house top" and A in a delightful choir version of "I'm getting nothing for Christmas".

Now E played right off the bat, with the junior band.  They were off-tempo, off-key and a little squawky, in other words they were wonderful.  There really is something magical about seeing how excited 12 years olds can get about the fact that they have learned to play an instrument.  I had been helping E with the flute playing before the big debut and I have to say, despite the fact that I haven't picked up a flute since high school, it brought back many great memories, and I am glad to say I wasn't too bad just a little rusty.  I think music class is so important it gives kids such a sense of accomplishment, and its fun to see them really excited about learning.  It doesn't have to be math and grammar all the time, though I sometimes think they need a little more of that.

A sang a funny little song about being bad, on the way over I told him he wouldn't have to act too hard since he is always naughty.  He laughed and told me I was crazy cause he was too good.  Nine year olds are funny.  When the class was done singing, A continued on for a few bars and then loudly said, "oh sorry we're done"  he wasn't embarrassed, just happy and smiley.  His enthusiasm is greatly appreciated.

I sat through other kids singing, and playing instruments and plays that were too quiet to hear.  I sat through slide shows prepare with bad spelling and stock photos.  It was a lovely evening and I am glad I got to be a part of it.

Sadly I have no pictures, I took my camera but forgot I had taken the memory card out and since my camera does not have internal memory I was unable to take any photos.
